Death temporarily separates spirit and body. In the spirit world, the righteous rest in paradise while the gospel is proclaimed to those who did not receive it in mortality.
Living disciples perform saving ordinances in temples on behalf of the dead. Each person remains free to accept or reject them. God’s plan preserves both mercy and agency.
